While we believe that any woman can be wherever she wants to be, this question appears to be a prevalent one. A solo female travel seems to be a myth to some.

Yes, the Philippines is generally a safe (and fun!) place to travel solo for women. Are we saying it’s 100% safe? Of course, not. Just like any other destination, a woman or a man in any case, should be cautious and diligent.

The Philippines is described to be a nation of strong women, who directly and indirectly run the family unit, businesses, government agencies and haciendas.

The Philippines has one of the smallest rates of gender disparity in the world.  In the Global Gender Gap Index 2017, the Philippines ranked 10th out of 145 countries for gender equality. The Philippines ranks higher than any other Asia-Pacific country but New Zealand. Women have always enjoyed greater equality in Philippine society than other parts of Southeast Asia.

 

Women in the Philippines are treated well and are often given equal opportunities in the society.  While some Filipino women are still strongly tied to their traditional roles as mother, wife, and housekeeper, the modern Filipinas are “empowered” beings – educated, influential, and economically important who are in top positions in the workplace.

So, with how locals regard women, we can definitely agree that the Philippines is where solo female travel can be an amazing experience. It is (still) uncommon for Filipinos to see foreign females traveling solo as it's usually men who travel by themselves. And it’s totally ok!
