PROJECT 2021-2022: 1 Traveller = 1 Donation to a Student + Private Donations
Donations to support the Young Focus Foundation in Tondo (Manila), to help economically disadvantaged students.
We are happy to confirm that also for 2021 we have decided to renew our traditional fundraising campaign!
From 2017 to today, as Tropical Experience, we have managed to raise the necessary funds to finance 7 scholarships for students in need.
Starting from 2019, the campaign was entirely funded by our company, through the initiative 1 traveler = 1 donation.
THE PROJECT DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
When the Covid-19 pandemic abruptly stopped international travels, we decided to continue our project through your contributions, so that together we can continue with this mission.
It was extremely important and vital to not give up on helping:despite the effects of the pandemic, we had no intention of interrupting our actions of social responsibility. For us, participating in the creation of a more sustainable world and giving opportunities to students is not just an act of "solidarity": it is a duty and even a necessity.
This became even more true during the pandemic, which forced a partial shutdown of the education systems, with dramatic effects in developing countries and in the Philippines themselves, affecting the most disadvantaged social classes once again.
In a moment like this, we felt that our project could not be left on standby.
THANKS TO A DONOR, THIS YEAR THE SCHOLARSHIP HAS BEEN 4!
Life is full of surprises and of generous people when you are open to welcome them: last year a special anonymous donor donated the equivalent of 3 scholarships! This way, 4 university students benefited from our program and had all their annual expenses covered.
Again in 2022, the same donor decided to renew the effort and donated 3 scholarships again. Thanks to donations from other generous people among our clients, friends and acquaintances, we reached the amount necessary to provide 4 scholarships!
Meanwhile, tourism in the Philippines restarted during February 2022, thus we were able to restore our "1 Traveller = 1 Donation to a Student" campaign: For every single traveller who will book a trip to the Philippines with Tropical Experience between February 1, 2022 and December 31, 2022, we donated 5 € to the "Young Focus Foundation".

THE HISTORY OF THE PROJECT
Back in 2017 and 2018, we organised two fundraising campaigns to support the Young Focus Foundation, which operates in the "Smokey Mountain" area of Tondo (Manila). This is one of the most marginalized areas of the Philippine capital as well as the country.
We discovered Young Focus a few years ago and were impressed with their work. In fact, this Foundation is responsible for providing all-around assistance to children and young people to enable their access to education. In most circumstances, having access to quality education can really mean being able to change your life!
In 2019 we decided to change the formula and no longer ask others to donate, yet we started pledging a small amount of money for each booking received. In this way, Tropical Experience became the main donor itself, while still keeping the door open to those that wanted to contribute personally.
Despite the forced stop of international tourism in 2020 and 2021, we decided to keep this project alive, relying on the donations of our customers, followers and friends. And by contributing ourselves too.
We have chosen to carry out and renew these projects in spite of everything because we are convinced that education can be the key factor to bring real change to the lives of these young people, their families and their communities. Thinking big, for every new student completing her/his studies, the Philippines will become a better place too.
Education can make young people independent, open new scenarios and possibilities and above all give the possibility of finding a stable and remunerative job that can open the door for a different life.
Thanks to the resumption of international tourism in the Philippines on February 2022, we were also able to restore our project 1 Traveller = 1 Donation, becaming the main donor of the project again.
